2014 Guys Read Collection Development Grant
The State Library of Kansas and the Kansas Association of School Librarians are partnering to implement Guys Read in libraries. Guys Read is a nonprofit literacy program directed at males of all ages. Adult guys are encouraged to act as reading role models - and readers - to younger guys. The Guys Read mission is “to help boys become self-motivated, lifelong readers.”
The State Library of Kansas (SLK), funded through an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grant, is announcing a non-competitive grant opportunity for public libraries in Kansas. Qualified, participating public libraries will receive a $250 grant to buy multiple copies of books for book clubs. A Library Match of $50 is also required. Shipping costs, if applicable, are the responsibility of the individual recipient library.
Submit application no later than December 1, 2014. No application will be considered complete until the Guys Read Project Information Survey is submitted online- http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/guysreadgrant
To be eligible, a library must be a public library in Kansas and have created a partnership with their local school library for Guys Read. Additionally, eligible libraries must be a participating KICNET and/or OCLC library. Library must agree to the terms listed within the Grant and Subgrant Eligibility Policy.
First steps to prepare to make an application:
- School librarians approach local public libraries to determine whether the local library is willing to partner to bring GUYS READ to their communities.
- School and public library staff get any formal approval necessary to apply for a GUYS READ Collection Development grant.
